Digital Nomad in Bali.

It isn't bad.
The airport is workable, you can even arrange in advance pickup service. I prefer to use Grab and have them wait a few minutes.
You can arrive via Jakarta or Bali Airport - Jakarta tickets from USA are the cheapest I've seen them usually retailing for $700 round trip and having free stop over in Japan or Taiwan. A ticket to Japan, one way is about $1500. Insane, isn't it?

Wifi is stable, good, better in Java, the island Jakarta is on. But 25mbps-75mbps is consistent enough.

Most restaurants have free wifi.
The telecom company have open policies on getting a sim card, 15gb data quota from telkomsel is about $5-7 depending on the package.

Home Stays, e.g. private rooms go for about $400-700 a month. Villas go for $1200-5000+ a month. A local murah paket meal (cheap package) is about 30,000, or $2~. Average great fare, e.g. sushi, comparable western meal, good course, about $7/100,000 IDR.

Yet I don't like it much here. It isn't expensive, but the people really got onto me.

Forming close relationships is not comfortable. I prefer to keep my distance.

The locals seem to as well, but the Indonesians from other islands have no network and thus enjoy to befriend foreigners and everyone.

I don't like alcohol or partying so much of the "going out" scene is not for me. I also especially don't like chatting/making friends with other foreigners when I'm in a foreign country. I feel they are the most dangerous relationships you can enter too. Especially if they're tourists and have no anchors to the country. It's ironic, isn't it - all this time to travel somewhere new and I'm risk adverse and highly hesistant to meet people.

I used to be diffeent, really - I used to meet everyone, few day tourists, locals, long term expats, etc but now I don't really want too. The locals are the highest on my list of doing so/allowing that to form - but then I still don't want too.

But that's just Bali in general for me, I enjoy keeping people at arms length away or more. The island isn't that dangerous for foreigners, or people, but I just don't like it.

I much prefer living long term in Japan. But you can do much worse than Bali, it could be anywhere in the Philippines. Indonesia is also a great country to travel, everywhere else. I'm much impressed to learn how much history, culture and food there is throughout Java, Manado, Sumatra, and how biodiverse it is - from Borneo to Bajo to Komodo.

It's just a shame, I don't have the energy or motivation to really dig in. I prefer doing nothing in my Bali Villa, ordering from grab, and reading books, internet or wondering why I'm not satisfied with life. It's all within my power to change, but it's a comfortable trap.
