My Fascination with the Toyota Wigo / Agya / Daihatsu Ayla

This is the Daihatsu Ayla, also known as the Toyota Agya (Indonesia) or Toyota Wigo (Philippines.)
I thought it was a really crappy car, but it really isn't. Kinda. They're manufactured in Indonesia and come in super stripped, base packages starting at just 100juta, or $7,000.
That's pretty amazing, a brand new car, for $7,000.

Why do I think it's a bad car?
I drove one, for 2 weeks. I was impressed how cheap it was to fill up, but also it overheated just driving normally - the same belt that drives the air compressor also drives the water pump.

At high speeds, I had to choose between having the A/C on, and having it not overheat. I thought it was funny.

As you can see, the lowest part the belt touches is the ac compressor, then right above the water pump and then alternator. Then there's the crank on the left side, with a tensioner right on top.
There's nothing wrong with this - but it's hilarious that the belt controls a critical part like that. Most cars usually have two belts, for essentials and accessories. But many new cars use a single belt for everything - so it's not far from the norm.

The Ayla 1.0 D - Base Model
It's been a while since I've seen a stripped, down to basics, nothing included car. It reminds me of the base Dodge Neon, when it came out, it was priced as low as it could, with some reaching 11,999. The cheapest car in the USA now is the Mitsubishi Mirage 4g, which, sucks at around the same price point.

Woah, really? YEAH!

The base, base, cheapest model - has no airbags, A/C, NO AIR, no Power steering, no Radio, no o-shit handles, steel wheels and manual crank windows.

And from there, it becomes pretty basic. The automatic transmission is a minimum 28 juta, or $2000 extra option. Pricy, but makes sense to get those higher sales.
For perspective of the interior -

And now some photos from my Wigo in the Philippines
